Population ageing is a significant demographic event in the 21st century. This phenomenon is driven by a demographic transition, which consists of a shift from high fertility and high mortality rates to lower fertility and lower mortality rates. The growing number of the elderly in Malaysia poses new challenges to the government, as this will impact the national development, both economically and socially. Several works of literature that are related to healthcare utilisation are available; however, the psychological aspects and the level of health literacy that influence the healthcare utilisation are hardly focused upon, specifically in Malaysia. Thus, there is a lack of empirical evidence in the study area that needs to be linked. Realising the need to examine the determinants of elderly healthcare utilisation closely, this discussion on the determinants of healthcare utilisation among the elderly in Malaysia. This book provides further insight into the determinants of healthcare utilisation on the elderly in Malaysia. The significant theoretical contributions of the study include extending the previous literature on healthcare utilisation and provide evidence for the healthcare provider and policymakers to understand better factors that influence healthcare utilisation among the elderly in Malaysia.  

NOORAIN MOHAMAD YUNUS Ph.D is a senior lecturer at Faculty of Business and Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. Her research interest includes population ageing, health behaviour, healthcare utilization and healthcare management.

NOOR HAZILAH ABD MANAF Ph.D writes on issues in healthcare covering diverse topics in the discipline from patient satisfaction to service quality, and from medical education to medical specialty training. Her writing also addresses policy issues such as medical tourism and its impact on the country's healthcare system. Apart from healthcare, her research interests include quality management, particularly on lean and six sigma. She is currently Head of the Business Department, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, IIUM; and sits on the Board of Directors of IIUM Holdings companies and various university committees.  

AZURA OMAR Ph.D is a lecturer at the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Her principal research interests have been in the area of diversity and management, entrepreneurial training and education, and qualitative research. She was also a volunteer member of the steering group committee for the Faith and Enterprise for Muslim Women, a project funded by SEDI of Manchester (Social Enterprise Development Initiative), ESF and the UK Islamic Mission.
