This book presents an approach to asset management from the fundamental aspects and continues with discussing the concept, theories and models related as well as the phenomena involved. An asset that has been in service for a long period will have issues related to aging and performance. This book also explores the challenges faced by the Royal Malaysian Navy in managing their asset. Besides, it explains the actual maintenance activities executed by the RMN in extending the life cycle of their aging assets.

This book aims to develop a general understanding not only of asset management but also of managing an aging asset. This book discusses the case study on aging asset management in the Royal Malaysian Navy, which gives a true picture of asset management in an organisation where assets are used for a long period and sometimes beyond their economic life. This is because the assets obtained are expensive capital assets, making them difficult to replace. In addition to implementing SLEP, the RMN has developed the transformation program named RMN 15 to 5. Besides the challenges faced by the RMN fleet today, this strategic plan is required by the RMN for the modernisation of older assets to be replaced by 5 classes of ship with modern capability which will protect Malaysia sovereignty.
