To enable man in this task of civilization building, God has revealed to him the Shari'ah, a divinely ordained code which is needed for spiritual (r?h?ni), moral (akhlaqi) and practical ('amali) requirements of human life on earth. Now the question is: Do we live by these demands of our Creator? The answer is hardly an affirmative one. Today our morality is eroding, our personal and social behaviour is bereft of Islamic value system and its laws, and our spirituality suffers decline and confusion. To remedy the situation henceforth our reorientation about basics of Islamic ideology, its ethical value system and its action inspiring legislative measures is extremely necessary. It is with this hope and regard that I have decided to publish the module on "Ethics and Figh for Everyday Life," that I taught students of distance learning run by C-Excell. In presenting the ideas on the issues covered in the texts I, by and large, have adopted a down to earth and non-technical approach. This is because the book is primarily written with the view of fulfilling the needs of non-specialist in Islamic sciences.

Nevertheless, I could not avoid the use of technical terms due to lack of corresponding approximate English translation for some key concepts. To help the reader overcome this, a glossary of these terms is enclosed in the book.
