Oil palm trunk (OPT) has been hailed as a viable candidate for cost-effective biorefinery feedstock, given its nutrient- and carbohydrate-rich sap and bagasse for improving the bioconversion technologies. Bio-based succinic acid from OPT remains highly potential as an alternative C4 building block to various other petroleum-derived counterparts. In enhancing market competitiveness for the case of succinic acid production rom OPT, selection o apropriate bioconversion steps such as inhibitor-free pretreatment, self-sustained enzymatic saccharification, and bacterium-specific fermentation is prudent. This book provides useful insights and recommendations for advancing future biomass o chemical commodity development, succinic acid from OPT in particular.
