This book is a compilation of multi-disciplinary scientific papers concerning Pulau Layang-Layang, one of the Spratly Archipelago features situated in Malaysia's portion of the South China Sea. It essentially represents part of the interim research outcomes of a Ministry of Higher Education (????) Malaysia's translational research grant entitled Sumber Semulajadi dan Potensi Pembangunan Strategik Ekonomi Luar Pantai Malaysia: Pulau Layang-Layang (Natural Resources and Strategic Development Potential of Malaysia's Offshore Economy: Pulau Layang-Layang), commissioned back in 2020 to expedite the collection and documentation, among others, of the Island's historical and current activities, diverse flora and fauna, geological features, carrying capacity, and climate change impact on this so-called Malaysia's gem in the South China Sea. 

This edited volume presents a collection of eleven manuscripts with titles deriving from a multitude of disciplines, ranging from geopolitics and socio-economics to natural resources and geology, all based on facts and referred information. It is hoped that the information presented will provide readers with a relatively holistic introduction and a better understanding of the background of this precious small island in Malaysia.
